Working Procedure of PWD

The Public Works Department of Utarakhand is the premier Engineering Department of the Government of Uttarakhand responsible for managing the road infrastructure, bridges and major government buildings in the state.

The Public Works Department functions in accordance with the various rules, acts and manuals laid down by the Government of Uttarakhand from time to time. Majority of civil works in the state are taken up through contracting.

Contractors are registered with the PWD in various classes "A", "B", "C" and "D". The eligibility of participation in the bidding process for a class of contractor depends on the value of work put to bid.

The PWD also takes up works on large road infrastructure projects using the National Competitive Bidding procedures, where in participation of eligible contractors from all over the country is allowed.

The PWD follows the accounting rules set by the Finance Department of the state and all expenditures are done as per the rules and procedures set in various government manuals.
